Prepare a brick barbecue material list from the drawing and intended use. The cooking-grate dimensions alone do not describe the whole structure. Before buying, mark the firebox height, equipment supports, wall arrangement and surfaces exposed directly to flame.
Divide the construction into zones
List the base, hot internal section and outer masonry separately. Vitcas firebricks can form a compatible firebox lining. Decorative outer masonry has a different duty, so avoid describing every layer simply as barbecue brick.
Check the available brick formats and dry-fit the grate supports. Metal parts may need movement allowance during heating. Specify their position and fixing before building the surrounding walls.
Calculate mortar from the joint layout
Outdoor Oven Cement is intended for suitable exterior refractory brick joints. Calculate coverage using the actual brick dimensions and specified joint thickness. A quantity example for one format will not automatically apply to a different arrangement.
Where the design includes larger refractory fills, check the separate duty of Heatproof Screed. Do not add a product just because it appears in an outdoor range. Assign every material a defined location and purpose.
Include fittings and protective layers
- Insulation and specified layers separating the hot section.
- Grate, supports and components that will need replacement.
- Weather protection and a finish suitable for the conditions.
- Tools, installation protection and an allowance for planned cuts.
Record the required quantity separately from the spare allowance. This makes quotations and design changes easier to check. Add setting and drying to the schedule: the arrival of materials is the start of the work, rather than confirmation that the barbecue is ready for its first fire.
